THE London 2012 Olympic committee has chosen Okehampton's museum as a recipient of its prestigious 'Inspire Mark.'
The Museum of Dartmoor Life was awarded the mark for helping to promote the games through an exhibition. Earlier this month it ran a 'People's Record' which looked at life in this country in 1908 and 1948 — the years in which the Olympics were held in Great Britain.
The exhibition can be seen again this October.
The active exhibition included games and toys from those times which visiting youngsters could play with, as well as photographs from that period. Newspaper features, artefacts, maps, oral history were all part of 'Okehampton and the Olympic Years.'
Maurie Webber, museum curator, said: 'We are really pleased to earn such prestigious recognition from the London Olympic committee 2012. The exhibition has proved very popular with visitors and I think the committee were impressed by its innovation.'
As an Inspire Mark recipient, the details of the museum's exhibition is due to put on to the official London Olympic 2012 for people to click onto.
