ACTION, drama and adventure was aplenty for visitors at the Museum of Dartmoor Life when the museum was taken over by theatre performers.

The Okehampton museum came to life last week when actors visited to perform a selection of Dartmoor tales and myths.

Using the entire museum as their stage, the actors from MED Theatre Company performed around the museum’s artefacts, leading the audience on a tour of the three floors of the museum.

The two performers mingled with visitors, encouraging audience participation while including references to ancient legends and myths about Dartmoor.

The actors used performance as well as shadow puppetry to tell the tale of three Dartmoor myths.

The first was a thrilling tale of a young hare being hunted and chased, the second was a romantic story of a woman and a Dartmoor tin miner and the final myth was about an evil man who worked as a wool wheeler and was turned into a hound.

The immersive theatre experience was hailed a success by both visitors and staff at the museum.

Museum manager Keri Quertier said: ‘It was a really great day and MED Theatre were suburb!

‘The performance brought in new visitors to the museum, which is great! Children of all ages came along and seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

‘We hope to get the theatre company back again for the half term in October as their spooky myths would be perfect for a Halloween theme day!’
