STORIES, wizardry, music and magic are to be part of a special free night for 50 children tomorrow (Friday) at the Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton. Fifty children between the ages of seven and 12 years, whose parents book and intend to join them, will be the lucky ones to gain entrance to the evening, which starts at 6pm and continues past the witching hour of midnight in the legendary land of Transylvania ? ie 9pm UK time. To ensure that magic is in the air a special ?magic place? will be set aside where stories of magic, potions and wizardry will encourage children to let their imaginations run riot and join in the excitement. Another area of the museum will be devoted to making music. The Wren Trust will be there with a range of instruments to help the children in song-making and singing for performances at the end of the evening. Sounds around the Museum will keep them guessing and storytelling will be featured throughout. Before the evening finishes there will be time to eat and to watch a film. All children will be given a small box of food in which a spooky edible will be found. The evening will conclude with a procession of masks and performances by the children and their music. The evening will be under the guidance of museum curator Maurie Webber. Maurie said: ?We wanted to do something different, something which had a fun, educational approach. ?Children are enthralled by the idea of staying up late and magic, and so an evening which finishes past their bedtime ? from 6-10pm for children from ages seven to 12 years ? emerged as an idea. ?Many children are in the area on holidays and some will have returned from holidays, so a little mid-summer magic might be just the ticket to introduce them to the fun aspects of museums.? Parents wishing to book should phone Museum of Dartmoor Life as soon as possible, on 01837 52295 Please note that children can only be admitted if accompanied by an adult. There is a maximum of three children per adult.
