BUCKLAND Monachorum Drama Group will be entertaining audiences with its spring production, the comedy 'A Public Mischief' by Kenneth Horne next week.
The plot sees a woman, Bridget, persuaded into running away from her husband Nicholas by her boyfriend Mark.
Unfortunately, Mark has expectations from a rich, fearsome aunt and cannot afford a scandal, so arranges for the disappearance to look like a bathing accident.
At first, the police seem to be taken in by this, but when Nicholas disappears too, they suspect him of Bridget's murder and a national manhunt ensues.
However, Nicholas has managed to trace Bridget to the guesthouse in Bath, where the aunt lives, and much of the comedy stems from the situation which is created when Nicholas takes a room under a false name and settles down to recover his wife.
Director Lisa Phillips said: 'The title of this hilarious comedy doesn't give any indication to the plot but as soon as we read through the script, we knew we had to do it.
'The Brighton Mystery or A Seaside Scandal would describe it better. However, our regular audience will know how enjoyable our productions are and we can guarantee a really good laugh at this one.'
Performances are on March 29, 30 and 31 at Buckland Monachorum Village Hall. Tickets are £6 and are available now from 01822 855336 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
