WEST Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox welcomed new figures showing that the Conservatives' long-term economic plan had delivered new affordable homes for families in his constituency.
Since 2010 a total of 710 new affordable homes have been built in the area. Across the country more than 260,000 new homes have been delivered, with nearly 60,000 homes built last year alone — a rise of 63% on the previous 12 months — exceeding the targets originally set by the Government.
The Government is now working to build another 275,000 affordable homes over the next five years.
Mr Cox said that everyone who works hard should be able to own a home of their own but due to the recession it became nothing more than 'a pipedream' for many families.
'Our long-term economic plan has turned this around and got Britain building again, with house building now at its highest level since 2007. This has helped to deliver 710 new affordable homes in Torridge and West Devon since 2010,' he said.
'This means many more families are now able to enjoy the security and peace of mind that comes from living in a good quality, affordable home of their own.'
