WEST Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox took to the roads last week to visit villages throughout the constituency in his new mobile surgery. The MP said he had been delighted with the response and that by parking up on village greens and squares he was able to see constituents who found it difficult to travel to the local towns where he held his usual advice sessions. No appointment is needed and constituents can find out when the MP is coming to their village by telephoning 01237 459001 or looking on his website at http://www.geoffreycox.co.uk">www.geoffreycox.co.uk He is touring the area for the next few weeks. Mr Cox said: ?In our large rural area, with public transport as it is, I know that some find it hard to make it into my regular advice surgeries in Tavistock, Okehampton, Holsworthy, Great Torrington and Bideford. ?I very much enjoy getting out and about in the summer recess to listen to what is on the mind of local people and to try to help with individual problems. This is a good way of doing that. I can even make them a cup of tea!? In Exbourne last week, Mr Cox parked his MP-Mobile outside the proposed site for the new Exbourne Community Post Office and Shop and, with supporters and residents, climbed the bank to get a better view of the plans and to show his support for the project. He said: ?The Community Shop Project is an excellent example of a village taking into its own hands the responsibility for safeguarding the future of the community, and the determination and energy the residents of the village have shown in running the current shop and post office in the village hall and in developing this initiative are very impressive. I very much hope that they will succeed.?
