WEST Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett visited hospitals, police stations and postal sorting offices in his constituency this week.

His Christmas tour took him to Okehampton on Friday morning where he dropped in at the police station, the district hospital and the castle hospital before travelling to Tavistock police station.

On Saturday he headed for sorting offices in Tavistock, Okehampton, Bere Alston and Chagford, as well as Tavistock Hospital.

Mr Burnett said the tour was an opportunity to thank hard working members of the community, whose efforts sometimes go unrecognised.

?It?s a very tiring schedule because we start so early each day, but it?s immensely worthwhile,? he said.

?I?m always very anxious to speak to as many people in the constituency as possible, in the run up to Christmas, whose work is so important to the community. These includes nurses, doctors, teachers, postal workers, police, carers and residential and emergency services.

?The aim is firstly to thank them for their hard work, and secondly to have an opportunity to hear their views in their particular line of work,? he said.

?We?re so lucky to have so many dedicated people in these and other fields who contribute so much, often without the recognition they so emphatically deserve.?
