FOLLOWING the success of its pilot project to bring film back to Okehampton, Moving Pictures is looking to take the next bold step and purchase its own projection equipment.

A new programme of Wednesday night films will be shown at the Charter Hall in Okehampton in October, but first the group are holding a public meeting next week to investigate ways of getting greater community involvement in the technical side of screening films.

The Rev Philip Wagstaff, project spokesman, said in order to be able to offer a wider programme of films the group was seeking ways of raising funds to purchase their own DVD based projection system, including a 14? x 10?6? screen.

?We would then need to build our own team of projectionists and supporters to develop the programme of films and to help at the venue,? said Mr Wagstaff.

To give everyone the opportunity to comment on what Okehampton Moving Pictures have done so far, a public meeting has been arranged at the Ockment Centre (Cosdon Room) for next Wednesday, September 29 at 7pm.

The group will also launch an appeal at the meeting and collect names of people willing to be actively involved.

Mr Wagstaff said the pilot scheme had proved a great success: ?We have been able to show films in a warm, friendly and enjoyable atmosphere in the Charter Hall in Okehampton.

?Using a modern projection system we have been able to bring films back to town at affordable prices.?

Box office hits Troy and Shrek 2 and a moody tale about high stakes gambling on the Vegas strip make up the triumvirate of films being shown at the Charter Hall in Okehampton next month.

Unfortunately the Dorset Film Company?s own season started in September and their ability to support Okehampton has been severely restricted.

However, the group are delighted they are now able to provide three dates in October.

Showing on the following dates at the Charter Hall, Okehampton at 7pm are : October 6, Troy (Cert 15) ? an epic Greek tale of love, passion and ultimately war; October 20, The Cooler (Cert 15) ? a moody tale depicting the cut-throat world of Las Vegas gambling through the eyes of the unluckiest guy in town, and October 27, Shrek 2 (Cert U) ? the blockbusting, enjoyable, fun sequel to 2001?s monster smash for all the family (afternoon performance at 2.30pm, evening at 7pm).

Moving Pictures would like to thank the Dorset Film Co, all at the Charter Hall, Okehampton MCTI, North Tawton Development Trust, the many local businesses who have displayed a poster and Millennium Music for their support.

Film tickets (price £3.75) are available from Millennium Music in the Arcade in Okehampton or on the door.
