THE Mount House U13 and U9 rounders teams both won their matches against St Michael's Tawstock. The U13s took charge of their match from the start with some superb examples of batting from Fern Toynton who top-scored with 5.5, Poppy Hartley, Emily Redman and Hannah Donne. Hannah went on to bowl well, and was supported brilliantly by Fern Toynton at backstop throwing quickly and accurately to Phoebe Malcolm at first and second posts to make several stumpings. Poppy took two great catches between second and third. In their first match, the U9 Mount House team won the toss and chose to field first. They restricted St Michael's to a score of 2 through excellent fielding, particularly by Elsa Kent and Augusta Clayton, and a great catch by Jenny Forrest. Mount House quickly overhauled this total with rounders from Elsa and from Emma Manton and consistent half-rounders from Tean Choroszewska. In a shorter second innings, St Michael's scored 2½, but Mount House responded with 5 from some forceful batting and daring running to win the match. In the first-ever Mount House mini-tournament, the Rounders team from the Downs School, Wraxall beat the Mount House A team 8-5.5 and the B team 14.5-5.5 on the way to a deserved tournament victory.
