POSIES of flowers will be given out to all mums and all who care for children at Tavistock parish church this coming Sunday, Mother's Day, at a special family service.

The church's vestry group for young children will be leading the prayers and readings during the service, and the address will be given by the new lay reader at the parish church, Wendy Roderick, herself the mother of two teenage children.

The Rev Michael Brierley, priest-in-charge of Tavistock and Gulworthy, said: 'Many of us will be taking our mums out for lunch that day, or cooking for them. What better way of thanking them, and thanking God for them, than by taking them first to church?!

'It's not just about mothers - some of us were brought up by others, and some of us have lost our mums, so it's an occasion for thanking God for those who raised us whoever they were, and for praying for those who have the privilege and challenge of bringing up children today.'

Everyone is warmly welcome at the service in St Eustachius' church, which starts at 9.45am, and will be followed by cake and refreshments.
