A public meeting was held last week for all those wanting to get involved in the creation of a giant mosaic to be displayed in Tavistock?s Pannier market. The project is being coordinated by Helen McFarlane of the Integrated Arts Group who hopes to bring different community groups together in creating the artwork. Artist Emma Spring, whose plans for the map have been on display in the town library, explained her ideas at the meeting. Emma has envisioned a ceramic map of Tavistock featuring around 20 sights of interest and so far 22 groups and 13 individuals have signed up to be involved in its creation. Organisers say they would like to thank the Heritage Lottery Fund, Tavistock Round Table and West Devon Borough Council, who funded the project. They also extend their thanks to Roger Howard, John Taylor, Claire Heatley, Steve Derbyshire, Moira Andrews and Linda Chilvers who, Helen says, were crucial in getting the project off the ground.
