A DOZEN people were advised to see their GP, following potentially life-saving tests, carried out free at the recent Okehampton Community Morning, co-ordinated by West Devon Borough Council.
Okehampton Medical Centre was one of 28 public service organisations at the event on Saturday July 14 at the Charter Hall and Red Lion Yard.
Staff from the medical centre carried out more than 60 tests to check blood pressure, blood sugar and lung function. As a result, 12 people were advised to contact their doctor for further investigation.
More than 400 enquiries were dealt with at the event by organisations such as Citizens Advice Bureau, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and Okehampton Community Garden, among others.
The day was organised by West Devon Borough Council, as part of its Connect Outreach Service, which takes friendly, face-to-face information about public services to communities across West Devon.
Forthcoming West Devon Connect dates are as follows: July 27, Chagford Library, 10.30am to 12.30pm; August 3, Exbourne, The Burrow Café, 10am to noon; August 7, Hatherleigh Market, 9.30am to noon.
