BELSTONE maintained their 100 per cent record in this season's Buckley Cup with a 29-run victory over a Moretonhampstead team of only nine men on a gloomy evening at Rew Meadow.
Off to a flying start, Belstone openers Nick Cowley and Eddie Jones put on 50 runs in the first 8 overs before both retired.
The middle order failed to maintain the momentum, but the score mounted until the innings closed at 110 for 6 wickets with the stroke of the match, a majestic straight six by Aiden Easterbrook off the bowling of the otherwise ecomonical John Jenkins - 2-12 off 4 overs.
In reply Moreton were always behind the asking rate of 5.5 runs per over.
All the Belstone bowlers picked up wickets, with Trevor Munkenbeck conceding only 4 runs from his 4 overs.
Proceedings were rounded off in the penultimate over when Moreton were all out for 81 thanks to a smart stumping by Richard Norrish.
Belstone take 13 points from the match, and Moreton six.
Belstone bounced back from a heavy defeat at the hands of Roborough in their previous South Devon League Division 3 game with a convincing 48-run victory over Newton Abbot Post Office at Rew Meadow on Sunday.
Their innings of 116 for 8 off 40 overs was held together by a season's best knock of 45 from Richard Drake.
In reply, Newton Abbot briefly threatened with an opening partnership of 26, then fine bowling from Fraser Willis (4 for 10) and Terry Jeal (5 for 29) saw the last 5 wickets fall for only 13 runs, with the innings being all over in 27 overs.
