TAVISTOCK Police say some of the money discarded along Tavistock Canal has been recovered following an appeal in last weeks Times ? but they believe a substantial amount is yet to be returned.
A man in an emotionally distressed state was seen throwing away a large quantity of £20 notes as he walked along Tavistock Canal by the college at lunchtime last Tuesday week. Around £200 has been handed back to police by people who picked up cash near the canal.
Police say further inquiries are being carried out, including investigation of reports of members of the public being in possession of quantities of money from the canal path. They urge anyone who has not yet come forward to do so.
Money which was picked up by the canal can be returned to the front desk of Tavistock Police Station or to Sgt Adrian Healy who can be contacted on 08705 777444 quoting log number 699/04/02.
