YOUNG people in isolated areas of West Devon needing help getting mobile can take advantage of the expansion of the pioneering Getting There project run by WestDEN.
The youth transport project offers driving test theory tuition, motorcylcing training courses and basic motorcycle maintenance for young people. An open day was held this week (Wednesday, January 29) at its new base at the Old Ropeworks workshop in Lakeside, Tavistock.
The project, launched in April 2001, loans low-powered scooters and electric bikes to people aged 16-25 who live in isolated rural areas in West Devon.
So far, the project has helped around 100 people.
Getting There has also attracted national interest for its pioneering radio-linked one-to-one safety and road awareness training for young people.
Project manager Max Jowett said: ?The Ropeworks, which was set up with the help of West Devon Borough Council and the Community Safety Partnership, has enabled us to expand the service and offer a wide range of training courses.?
