CALSTOCK unicycle club, the Ali Oops, have been awarded £2,500 to spend on raising the profile of unicycling in East Cornwall. The funding comes through the ?Our Money, Your Dream? scheme, aimed at allowing teenagers to influence funding choices. One of the aims is to recruit more young people to the club. Sam Taylor, age 13, said: ?It?s a really exciting opportunity to make more things happen.? The club will be running workshops at Harrowbarrow and Gunnislake schools with experts demonstrating their skills. This will be followed up with extra sessions at Callington Sports Hall. A spokesman for the club said: ?Any child who can ride a bike has the coordination to learn to ride a unicycle but also needs determination. As well as hanging out and having fun kids can get involved in freestyle, street, games, unicycle basketball and unicycle hockey.? In Elsbeth Mackellar and Sam Taylor the club has two players in the unicycle hockey league team, SWUM. The current age range is from six to people in their 40s and anyone is welcome to come along. The club meets on Saturday mornings between 10am and 11am at Calstock Hall. Any one wishing to attend should bring a bike helmet and contact Ali Oops first on 01822 834107.
