HARD work has paid off for youngsters from Princetown Primary School, who have seen the installation of their first piece of play equipment. Pupils from the school's Children United council designed play equipment after they realised that the school needed something enjoyable for the older children. But at a cost of approximately £2,500 for each piece of equipment, it was not going to be quick and easy. The school council held events including cake sales to raise funds and with donations from the school's parent forum, the Rotary Club, residents from Royal Court, and a large donation from the Princetown Charity Shop of £500, the first piece of equipment has now been installed. Emma Burchell, teaching assistant and mentor of the school council, said: 'Our aim is to add on to the playground. The children will continue to fundraise for more equipment — it's the safety mats and the installation of the equipment that costs the most.'

Youngsters from Princetown Primary School are pictured sat on the balance beam, which is part of their new piece of equipment in the playground.
