A PROJECT to record oral recollections of life on Dartmoor is underway to mark the 50th anniversary of the moor's designation as a National Park.
The aim of the project is to conserve the memories of people who have lived and worked on the moor over the last 50 years, and to paint an audio picture of 20th century Dartmoor life.
Recollections of whortleberry gathering, bracken collecting, the arrival of the first family motor car and mains electricity may all be included.
The project has been joined by Becky Newell from BBC Radio Devon, who has spent much time talking to Devonians about their life and work.
She also has strong Dartmoor links, as her family home was near Chagford — she has also worked with the Radio Devon programme Dartmoor Diary with the 'Widecombe Wag', Tony Beard.
The recording process is informal and although there is a growing list of people to visit, the National Park Authority would welcome additional recommendations and volunteers.
For further information, call Becky Newell on 01752 263643 or Jane Marchand on 01626 832093.
