A NEW directory of Dartmoor meat producers has been published, helping customers to buy fresh, locally produced meat products direct from the farm.

Among this independent group of farmers who practise traditional extensive farming methods are Anton Coaker, of Sherberton Farm, Princetown; Richard and Lizzie Vines, of Wild Beef, Chagford, and Frank and Sue Martin, of Pizwell Farm, Postbridge.

The directory, entitled Meat Dartmoor, which also provides information on delivery of products throughout the region, has been supported by the Dartmoor Hill Farm Project and Dartmoor National Park Authority?s Sustainable Development Fund.

?Dartmoor is a truly beautiful landscape, from open moorland to wooded valleys and a patchwork of small fields with traditional family farms,? said moor hill farm project officer Cathy Heath.

?In order to conserve the special character of the moor it is essential to retain traditional hill farming practices which supports the landscape and biodiversity.

?By buying direct from Meat Dartmoor you can be assured of the traceability and standards of welfare involved in producing the meat as well as knowing that you are directly contributing to the maintenance of the Dartmoor landscape and its wildlife.?

Copies of the directory cane be obtained from producer Sue Martin or from the High Moorland Visitor Centre at Princetown.
