PRESENTATION night for the Moorland Ladies Darts League was held last Saturday at Victoria Social Club in Bere Alston. A cheque was presented to Allen Lewis and his son Paul, 5, after the ladies raised £460 on charity night, with other donations. This will benefit Paul and help with his treatment for Autism, which is provided by the Son-Rise Programme of America. The overall winner of the Charity Night was Michelle Sawyer of the Leaping Salmon, Horrabridge. The night runner-up was Debbie Frise of the Buccaneer, Gunnislake. Finals night and Captains Cup competitions were held on May 15 at the Buccaneer. In the semi-finals of the mixed doubles Lynn Shepherd and Eggy (Buccaneer) won against Fran Robinson and Mark Heeler (VSC A) and Sarah and Peter Jones (Market Inn) won against Sam Allen and John Northam (Leaping Salmon). In the final Sarah and Peter took the victory from Lynn and Eggy, after Peter scored 180 in the final match. In the ladies doubles Anna Johnson and Avril Hunter (RBL B) won against Carolyn Jury and Brenda Psyden (Union Inn) in the final. In the singles Tanya Edwards (Cornish Inn) was defending her title when she played Lisa Turner (VSC A) in the final. Tanya defeated Lisa 2-0 and regained her title for another year. In the Captains Cup semi-finals Carolyn Jury (Union Inn) won against Gill Walter (R and B A) and Jan Dean (RBL A) won against Ann Wheeler (VSC A). The final was won by Jan, with Carolyn the runner-up. The nominations for the most sporting team were collected at finals night and the Union Inn won with a majority of votes. In the Knock-out Cup final Drake Manor played at home against the Buccaneer, the match was won 6-3 by the Buccaneer, making Drake Manor runners-up of the cup. At the end of the season, the league winners trophy was awarded to the Cornish Inn, with the Buccaneer coming close runner-up. The Handicap Trophy was won by the Railway Inn. The trophy for the most team wins went to the Cornish Inn with a score of 53/78, and most team tons trophy was won by the Leaping Salmon with a total of 109 tons. Awards also went to J Dean (RBL A) for the highest shot out with a score of 151 and to S Watson (Prince of Wales) with a score of 152 for the highest shot away. The highest score (excluding 180s) was awarded to J Edwards (R and B B) for getting a score of 174. Trophies were awarded for 180s to Peter Jones and Amanda Fone (Buccaneer), Karen Meakin and K Harris (Union Inn), M Deacon (Cornish Inn) and D Tait (RBL A). The award for most individual tons went to D Frise (Buccaneer) with 35 tons this season.
