MORE than 250 people attended a special open day at an isolated Dartmoor church last weekend. The event was held at St Michaels and All Angels Church in Princetown last Saturday. It was the first time the church had been open to the public since it was closed 14 years ago. Women from Princetown WI displayed photos of past weddings and christenings which had taken place at the church, and Ron Joy from Tavistock explained the history of Princetown Prison and its connection to the church. At the event there were many members who used to attend the church who came to view the work which had been done since it was closed. After the exhibition at St Michaels and All Angels Church everyone went to Princetown United Church for refreshments. Anne Crozier, the Princetown United Church secretary, said: ?We had a wonderful day with lots of local interest from people interested to see the restoration work which has been done. ?The day was very successful with great displays. Everyone had a great time.? The church is under the care of the Church Conservation Trust. It welcomes any events including exhibitions and concerts.
