THE Dartmoor North to South Yomp, which starts at Okehampton Camp and finishes at the memorial statue outside the gates of the Royal Citadel in Plymouth, takes place this bank holiday weekend.
The majority of walkers will be former members of 29 Commando, who are based at the Citadel. However the event is open to anyone who wishes to take part.
Starting on Saturday, the 32 mile trek leads walkers from the camp across the moor to Princetown, bypassing Tinners Hut, Wistmans Wood and Two Bridges. Walkers will stay the night in Princetown before heading to Plymouth.
This year walkers are supporting the Forces Children's Trust. Two of the charity walkers are father and daughter duo Bill and Amanda McOwan from Tavistock. Bill's wife Grace said: 'Bill was in the army for many years, and this charity seemed a very good reason to take part.'
