A MOBILE phone may have saved the life of a holidaymaker after he became lost in thick fog on Dartmoor.
The man had been camping in the Two Bridges area of the moor when he became lost in the early hours of Friday morning.
Unable to find his way back to the campsite he called police who made initial searches of the area before calling upon the services of Dartmoor Rescue Group who turned out at first light and began extensive searches on Great Mis Tor, Cox Tor and the Holmingbeam Ranges.
With the weather gradually clearing, the holidaymaker was able to make out buildings at Postbridge and headed towards those where he was met by members of the rescue group and police.
Once it had been established he was safe and well he was returned to the campsite to continue his holiday.
