TAVISTOCK Athletic Club had their initial fixture of the 2011/2012 Brooks Westward League cross country season at Redruth School.
In the U11s development race the impressive Jenny Milburn finished as leading girl and only 13 seconds behind the overall winning boy. Holly Kinsey ran to a superb 15th place in the mixed field.
For Tavistock ladies Alice Rogers took a strong 24th place among the ladies and was sixth in her U17 age group. Her mum Kate fought hard for a 40th place.
In the U15s' races Tavistock were unable to field the necessary three runners for a team score. Despite this, those who did make the trip put in fine performances. Emily Attfield and Yasmin Gray did will to come third and fifth respectively.
In the boy's event Mata Pearce fought hard for a fine 6th place.
In the senior men's Bideford's Kevin Heywood was in unstoppable form as he moved away from the rest of the field but Tavistock's Jim.
Cole held off the remaining runners to record his fastest ever time over this course to secure second. Richard Drage came home in 25th place, Tony Symons and Chris Champion immediately followed in 26th and 27th places and Martin Exley in 32nd.
The score for the four veterans was sufficient to see Tavistock the leading veteran team, with Drage, Symons and Exley remarkably monopolising the 3 top spots in the M50 category.
Further Tavistock runners were Richard Best in 82nd, in front of colleagues Bob Chapman (88th) and Robin Musgrave (100th).
In the U15 boys event Sam Lane De Courtin was a superb third while Jordan Channon finished fourth. Theo Brown completing the team in 11th gave Tavistock the first in the team competition.
