LAST weekend saw the final round of Mid Devon Cycle Club Springtime Pursuit series and for the five members of North Devon Wheelers entered there were mixed fortunes. Adrian Street was forced to pull out of the race after a couple of laps having not fully recovered from a mid week bug. Steve Sage was unable to continue when he was struck with cramp on the final kilometre long climb to the finish. Junior category rider Matt Yates was also dropped from the main bunch with around one lap remaining after the faster riders increased the pace nearer the finish. But despite riding the remainder of the race alone he showed real guts to climb the final hill to the finish in what was only his fourth road race. So it was left to the club?s other junior rider Pete Vincent and one of the newest club members, Phil Sage to keep the flag flying. Pete led the duel over the line closely followed by Phil in a finishing position of around twentieth place. All the Wheelers have made a steady improvement over the three events after they all struggled the first week, to showing some aggressive riding and improved results in this, the third event. This week the Wheelers turn their attention to a weekend of training or alternatively a 2up team time trial organised by CS Dynamo (Exmouth) on Sunday.
