TAVISTOCK Bowls Club met mixed fortunes in North Devon. A fine victory was recorded at Bideford, mainly due to good wins by Colin Tremaine and Yvonne Meneer.
Colin was assisted on his rink by Stuart Doidge, Wallace Northey and Brian Preece, while Yvonne's rink consisted of Jenny Tremaine, Catrina Meek and Jean Flay.
It was a different matter at Barnstaple where the home team won on all four rinks.
The men's league team lost two encounters with a strong New Plymouth side, winning only one of the eight rinks played. Eric Stevens and his rink of Pat Sykes, Norman Paramor and Tony Coombe spared Tavistock's blushes, preventing the Plymouth side from a clean sweep.
Unfortunately, the men fared no better when they unexpectedly lost to Devon ladies. But they had something to celebrate in reaching the quarter finals of the Farley Trophy when they defeated Beacon Down on all five rinks. It was Eric Stevens and Rob Bowhay who again got Tavistock off to a good start by winning the two singles matches.
The ladies beat Plympton in a triples match with a good win for Gill Saunders, Hazel Lovell and Jenny Aldridge.
On Monday evenings throughout the season members meet for a roll up. Anyone who would like to learn the game would be warmly welcomed. Woods can be provided. Just wear flat soled shoes.
