IT was a week of mixed fortunes for Tavistock Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club after they finished the week having won one match, lost two and had two rained off. The week began with a men?s section evening league away match against New Plymouth which ended as a 74-66 defeat for the Tavistock travellers after they won two rinks and lost two. Skip Norman Paramor and his crew won 20-16 and skip Malcolm Bloomer led his squad to a one shot 18-17 victory. Skip Clive Jago and his team lost 19-22 and skip Mike Allen saw his squad go down 9-19. The men faced Beacon Down in Thursday?s evening league fixture and managed to win only one of the four rinks played, losing 56-76. Tavistock?s one winning rink was skipped by Clive Jago, who led his squad to a 22-18 victory. Losing skips were: Norman Paramor (12-20), Mike Allen (13-16) and Malcolm Bloomer (9-22). Wednesday saw the club entertain members of Tavistock Tennis Club for a ?Fun Evening? of bowls which fell foul of the weather just when the tennis club members were getting the hang of the game. A re-match is being scheduled! Saturday saw five rinks of Tavistock players travel to face a Plymouth Civil Service mixed team for a five rink triples match. The travellers returned home having won all five rinks played, achieving a 124-52 victory. Skip Mike Allen and his squad of Mike Silcox and Joan Northey won 36-1, with the opposition scoring their only winning shot on the very last end of the game. Skip Vic Stacey and his crew of Gordon Northey and Christine Leach fought out a close encounter to win 19-18 after they picked up the necessary one winning shot on the last end of the game. Skip Colin Tramain and his crew of Yvonne Meneer and Mike Felles won 21-11 and skip Ernie Piper and crew of Harvey Leach and Diana Smirles won 20-11, while skip Sue Silcox and her squad of Norman Paramor and Ray Meneer notched up a 28-11 victory.
