TAVISTOCK under 13s sevens squad had a day of mixed fortunes in Exmouth at the Devon RFU festival. Between 10.30am and 4pm Tavistock played six fourteen minute games against Totnes, Sidmouth, Plymouth Argaum, Exmouth, Newton Abbott and Torquay. Scoring a total of 94 points and reaching the final of the knockout Plate. The team with no experience in playing seven-a-side took time to settle and lost all three of their pool matches but in the third against Plymouth Argaum found some rhythm coming close to a positive result. Next came Exmouth in the first of the knockout competition. Tavistock?s strength and stamina won through 28 points to 12. Newton Abbott stepped up for the semi-final only to run into Tavistock on top of their game. Playing to their strengths Tavistock kept the ball tight resulting in a solid five tries to two victory and a final against a very disciplined Torquay side. Every member of the squad played their part in this eventful day: Mark Friend, Rufus Gould, Jack Haigh, Elliot Hoyte, Sam Lindsey, Dan Oner, George Rodgers, Tom Simmons, Phillip Snell, Sam Straughan, Josh Stephens, Callum Thompson and Tom Thursby.
