Duchy Premier St Merryn 2 Gunnislake 2 MID-TABLE Gunnislake visited St Merryn and despite twice coming from behind to earn a draw they felt this was two points dropped against a struggling St Merryn. The hosts were pointless from their first four fixtures but a strong wind and poor surface proved a great leveller as Saints? hustle and bustle approach met Gunnislake?s ?get the ball down and play? style. Saints took the lead on 20 minutes via a harshly awarded penalty. Finding the conditions difficult Gunnislake were producing a frustrating performance but did manage to grab an equaliser shortly before the turn around. Mike Vanstone whipped in a good ball from the left touchline and Stef Kelly sneaked in at the far post to score from close range. At half time the visitors decided to play a more direct game in the second period. This had an immediate effect and a couple of good opportunities were created but these were missed as the visitors did the greater share of the attacking. Saints were first to score when after an initial breakaway attack was cleared by the visiting defence and an untracked runner sped forward to slot home. Gunnislake pushed four up front and deservedly levelled 10 minutes from time. Neil Kinger floated the ball in to the penalty area and when the Saints keeper failed to get hold out of it Jarryd Kelly?s quick reactions enabled him to centre for Shane Maton to head home at the far post. The visitors kept four forwards up for the rest of the game and while this made for a frenzied affair neither side could find a decisive third goal. Duchy Premier Lamerton 1 Dobwalls 3 THE result means dire straits for Lamerton, who are now bottom of the league after another frustrating home performance - this time against fellow strugglers Dobwalls. Lamerton, like previous weeks, dominated large parts of the game with plenty of possession, but not creating cutting edge attempts. The first half was pretty non eventful with neither side really testing the opposition keeper. The second half was much livelier. James Healy nearly took the lead for Lamerton when his close range far post header hit a post, which was then scrambled clear. A mistake then gave Dobwalls a corner, which resulted in the first goal. The keeper missed the flight of the cross and Mark Fielder got enough of a touch with his head from two yards to see the ball over the line. Lamerton kept the pressure on and had several opportunities to equalise, the best coming when Kev Swift was slipped in by a Paul Breyley pass but he shot wide; then Swift again, going one on one from seven yards, had his attempt well saved. Dobwalls front man Mark Lindsay, who was having a frustrating day against the Lamerton defence, finally earned a break when he cleverly turned inside his man to run on and shoot a terrific low shot into the bottom corner. Lamerton still fought on, but it wasn?t to be their day when Ben Kittow?s speculative cross come shot surprised the Lamerton keeper, who parried it into the corner for 3-0. Lamerton scored a consolation goal near the end when Dan Healy fed Rich Searle down the right who went into the box and struck a superb hit into the top corner. Duchy Reserve cup Gunnislake Res 3 St Merryn Res 1 TWO weeks previously Gunnislake reserves inflicted a 4-1 league defeat on St Merryn reserves and the hosts ensured their good run of results continued with this cup victory. It was the ?old, very old and young show? as far as the Gunnislake goal scoring went. The old was Mike Fitze, at 38 years of age while the very old was Gunnislake stalwart Mark Southcott who is still going strong at 42. The young, and showing that Gunnislake do most certainly have a good youth policy, was 18 year old Mike King.
