Tavistock 1sts 2
North Devon 1
HOPING to continue the recent trend of successive wins, Tavistock Firsts faced a formidable North Devon side away at Barnstaple.
North Devon demonstrated superb skill and discipline relentlessly assaulting Tavistock's defence. To their credit a concerted effort from the defence, Edwards, Wood, Marchant, George, and keeper Mingo, caused the opposition to be successively denied any opportunity to secure an early lead. Tavistock's perseverance paid off with a convincing goal from Simon Marchant, who scored from a short corner approximately 27 minutes into the first half.
Tavistock battled on throughout the start of the second half with Cowen and Carr working hard to hold the midfield. Bury's performance at right mid was outstanding despite his lack of experience. Unfortunately an excellent period of passing caught Tavistock flat-footed and allowed North Devon to equalise. A series of determined attack runs led by Heard re-applied pressure on the opposition's defence. An unsuccessful strike gave North Devon possession, however a defender's error allowed Carr a shot on goal. The strike went wide but luckily Daniels was close enough to correct the path of the ball slotting it in behind the keeper.
Credit for this week's excellent victory really must go to the stalwart defensive line and the spectacular performance of the keeper, Paul Mingo.
