Palladium Cricket League
Tavistock U13s v Cornwood U13s
Tavistock were having to play three games in the space of a week, and started their first of those matches against a previously unbeaten Cornwood side.
Cornwood elected to bat first and started slowly after a good spell of bowling from Oliver Sale 3-15 and Freddie Jayarajah 1-17. Cornwood then started to open their shoulders a little and ended their 20 overs on a respectable total of 145-6.
Tavistock didn't have the best of starts to their innings, losing Rhys Davies early on, but it was one way traffic from here on, as Tavistock's Mikey Cousens took his attack to the Cornwood bowlers and smashed them all around the field to reach his century, which included 16 fours and two sixes, in less than 12 overs. Mikey finished the game on 106no and was supported well by Jonty Newman 23no as Tavistock cruised to victory by eight wickets. That was also the first century in the entire Palladium Cricket League by any batsman this season — congratulations to Mikey on that great effort.
Plympton U13s v Tavistock U13s
TAVISTOCK travelled to Plympton on a beautiful summer's night and, having lost the toss were asked to field.
Tavistock's opening bowling attack caused problems for the Plympton batting line-up with Jonty Newton 3-12 and Freddie Jayarajah 2-16 bowling superbly. Plympton's batsmen started to open their shoulders a little but some fine swing bowling by Will Smith, aided by some good wicket-keeping by Rhys Davies, restricted Plympton to a final score of 103-6.
Jamie Stephens and Mikey Cousens opened for Tavistock and put on a healthy 70 run partnership before Stephens fell for 25. Mikey Cousens took his attack to the Plympton bowlers and finished the game off in less than 12 overs. Cousens finished on 57no and Rhys Davies 12no as Tavistock won by eight wickets.
Tavistock U13s v Plympton
Crusaders U13s
TAVISTOCK captain Jamie Stephens won the toss and elected to bat first. Rob Grove and Mikey Cousens opened for Tavistock and started well. Rob Grove fell for ten, but it was Cousens again who was showing his class with the bat smashing the ball all around the ground before finally being caught out on 88.
This left Rhys Davies and Freddie Jayarajah at the crease and the pair of them played some outstanding cricket shots and pushed Tavistock up towards the 200 mark before Davies fell for 44.
Jayarajah and Jonty Newton ended Tavistock's innings on 202-3, with Jayarajah pm 36no and Newton 10no.
Tavistock started their bowling innings in good style, with Aidan Mason 1-20 and Jonty Newton 1-13 bowling tight to the stumps. With Plympton's opening bat Cload still at the crease and looking dangerous, Jayarajah was brought to the attack and dismissed Cload with his second ball and finished with figures of 3-4; Pete Jarman cleaned up the remaining Crusader batsmen with some fine spin bowling, leaving Plympton all out for 62. Tavistock won by 140 runs.
