A WEST Devon resident will be embarking on an epic journey to ride the entire UK mainland coastline to raise funds for ex-service personnel.

'Fifty-something' year old Mike Woolley from Walkhampton will be taking on the month-long journey on his Yamaha motorcycle next week, in aid of the charity Combat Stress.

Tree specialist Mike said: 'I'm leaving Plymouth Hoe on Monday April 11, to ride the entire UK mainland coastline to raise money for Combat Stress — the leading UK charity specialising in the treatment of ex personnel with mental health issues, which is currently raising funds for a national chain of local support centres. They need £30-million.

'I come from a service family and have friends who have recently served in Afghanistan, so I have an idea how tough modern, high intensity warfare is for those currently serving.

'I will be running a daily blog so that people can follow my progress round the UK, and hopefully get involved, either by giving money through the site, or offering practical help with food, fuel and accommodation as I go round.

'I'm hoping to give talks to local bodies, such as the Royal British Legion, schools and so on — if asked to — to help raise the profile of Combat Stress.'

Mike's trip will be approximately 5,000 miles in length.
