IT may only be several weeks to Christmas — but Tavistock and District Mencap Society is looking ahead . . . to the next festive season.
They have just judged a competition for a Christmas card to be printed for Christmas 2000.
Chairman of the Tavistock and District Mencap Society, Robin Fenner — along with friends from the world of art — selected the winning design from more than 60 entries.
The competition was divided into two classes — senior and junior. Winner of the senior class was Patsy Alford from Davie House, Horrabridge, and runner-up was Doris Piper, also of Davie House.
In the junior class Ben Harrison, who attends Downham School in Plymouth, won and Charyl Brough, also of Downham School, was runner-up.
All the competition entries live in the West Devon area.
'This is the first time for a long, long time we have run a competition like this. We thought it would be good to reintroduce it,' said Mr Fenner.
'The art work has a naivety that is so honest compared with the representational art that one is led to believe is worthy of major prizes.'
Mr Fenner said the Tavistock and District Mencap Society was now looking for a generous sponsor to help pay to produce a run of between 2,000 and 5,000 Christmas cards from the design of overall winner Patsy Alford.
If you can help please contact Mr Fenner at the Stannary Gallery, Tavistock or any member of the Tavistock and District Mencap Society.
