A NEW theatre company in Okehampton is on the lookout for aspiring male actors to take part in their first production.

Transitions Theatre Company started a series of skills-based drama workshops at the Ockment Centre on March 1.

The sessions give adults aged 18 or over the chance to realise their dramatic ability while being taught invaluable stagecraft techniques by skilled and experienced drama practitioners Nigel Crabb and Rob Pudner.

Following completion of five skills-based sessions, all participants will be given the opportunity to audition for an outdoor production of Alan Ayckbourn's 'Round and Round the Garden'. The show has been booked by a number of venues, including Strets at Upton Cross, and as part of the Hatherleigh Festival.

The company has attracted a number of talented performers, but only one male actor thus far. The show needs three strong male roles to be filled, so the director is desperately on the lookout for people to fill those places.

The auditions take place on Sunday April 1 from 10.30am in the Ockment Centre.

Rob Pudner said: 'We are looking for one hundred per cent commitment. Rehearsals will be in the evenings and performances are at the weekend through the summer months.

'There is no payment for actors but what we can guarantee is a step up the ladder, continued support, out of pocket expenses and expertise, and who knows where the individual's own journey will take them.'

Nigel Crabb added: 'For those people that are not cast in this particular show, there will undoubtedly be other opportunities to work as part of the creative team. This is really just the start.

'Transitions Theatre Company has other irons in the fire and plans for future productions — it's all very exciting.'
