I AM writing in response to the Letters to the Editor as published in the Times (November 28) and wish to make the following comments.
The present siting of the Tavistock War Memorial is of historical importance to the community of Tavistock, dating back for nearly a century and is a Grade II Listed structure.
It should be noted that under current government legislation, the Tavistock War Memorial cannot be relocated to another location within the town by public funds, it can only be moved raising funds from public subscription.
In its present location over the years, the site of Remembrance has been adequate to meeting the needs of those attending the Remembrance Service and all the other locations stated would not be able to meet those needs.
Finally in regard to the traffic noise at 11am, this year was the worst for a considerable number of years. It would be ideal for all those present to have the traffic stopped at an ideal location for a period of time from 11am to, say, 11.05am, however as Mr Dell has recently stated to the undersigned that under the present legislation it cannot be done and cost of diverting the traffic would be prohibitive.

SIMON Dell's proposal of using the Bank Square for the Remembrance Day Service and transferring the War Memorial there seemed an excellent idea which I would give my support.
