THE STANNARY Youth Band are holding a concert at Chagford Jubilee Hall this Saturday, March 31, in memory of the late councillor and Mayor of West Devon, Peter Hill. The concert will raise money for new instruments, which will make it possible for more young people to join the band. The late Peter Hill chose the Stannary Youth Band as his mayoral charity during his time in office because he felt it provided a wonderful opportunity for young people throughout West Devon to play a musical instrument. His widow Gay Hill said: 'He was a firm believer that often throughout life if you were able to play an instrument it provided you with many social contacts and friends, and if you wanted to, there was a hobby for life.' At a thanksgiving service for Peter last year, donations were shared with the Stannary Youth Band, which allowed six cornets to be purchased for use by its members. This weekend's concert begins at 7.30. Tickets are available in advance from Gay Hill on 01647 432424, or on the door priced at £7.50 (£5 for children) to include supper. There will be a licensed bar and a raffle.
