Tavistock Town U13 Girls 3 Activate Youth Rangers U13 3 (Activate won on penalties after extra time) BOTH teams learned about the emotions involved in playing football during this cup tie. Tavistock were only able to play with one substitute due to a registration mix-up and a player not turning up on the day, but still started well, with Megan Case controlling the midfield with her usual flair. She opened the scoring from a free kick which cleared the wall and hit the back of the net without the keeper seeing it. Olivia Hodge made it 2-0 just before half-time and the girls thought it was going to be easy. This was not the case even when Annabel Longden made it three from a well taken penalty just after the break. Activate stepped up a gear and came back with some strong runs by their wingers. Tavistock Girls had no energy left and could not cope with the constant attacks. A penalty was awarded to Activate which they duly converted. Number two came moments later and Activate sensed a chance of victory. In the dying seconds of the match they equalised and the game went to extra time. But with no more scoring it had to be penalties. Fiona McCall played her part and saved six of the eight penalties shot in at her but her team-mates could not get the ball on target. Olivia Hodge scored her penalty with everyone else either missing the target or their shots being saved. It was tears all round and some heartbroken girls that left Crowndale after the match. Player of the match: Annabel Longden. Coach?s player: the whole team.
