KELLY College?s first XI suffered its first setback of the season at the hands of a strong MCC at Kelly.

Batting first on a slow and benign pitch, MCC cruised to 160 runs without loss by lunch aided by six catches put down by Kelly in the field. Regrouping after lunch, Kelly restored some pride by capturing six of the visitors? wickets before MCC declared at 216, shortly after the mid-point.

Any chance Kelly might have had of chasing this total evaporated in the face of MCC?s county opening attack. Six wickets down by tea, Kelly could only manage 64 before being bowled out well before the beginning of the final hour.

l On Wednesday May 8 Kelly College?s junior sides hosted Tavistock College, winning two and losing one of the matches.

In the U13 game, Kelly batted first and posted a big total of 144-7, with Patrick Jeynes making 44. Tavistock unfortunately never looked like chasing this score,

ending on 64 all out, with Sam Twaites taking 4-4.

A less lively but more even contest was fought out in the U16 match, with Tavistock being bowled out for 50 chasing Kelly?s modest total of 96-8.

However, the highlight of the day?s play was undoubtedly at U15 level, where, thanks to Ian Gray?s excellent unbeaten century, Tavistock successfully overhauled Kelly?s impressive 144-6 with wickets and overs to spare.
