TWENTY-five Japanese students from different high schools in a district of Tokyo all congregated in Tavistock Town Hall last week. Each Japanese student came from a different junior or high school from Edogawa Ward, which has a population of 700,000 people. Tavistock College has run exchanges with Japan for seven years ? this new event, sponsored and supported by Edogawa mayor Masami Tada, is part of ?Edogawa Youth Wins Programme? to involve every school in the district. The 25 pupils have been to Morwellham Quay, been horse riding, archery and went rock climbing. Tavistock College has one of the biggest Japanese departments in the UK. More than 130 students took Japanese GCSE, which was the highest recorded in Britain.
