WEST Devon mayor Terry Pearce puts everyone in the shade when it comes to raising funds for charity. Cllr Pearce is encouraging people to show their support for the Guide Dogs for the Blind by wearing sunglasses for the Shades for a Day, which takes place tomorrow, (Friday). The event aims to raise awareness of the often neglected, but vital importance of eye care in the sun. Guide Dogs is urging everyone to put on their sunglasses, sun visor or hat to help protect their eyes against harmful UV sunlight. This reduces the risk of long-term eye damage, and conditions such as age-related Macular Degeneration and cataracts. Cllr Pearce said: 'It's so important to look after your eyes, particularly as the sun is getting so much stronger these days due to changing ozone levels. 'I'm delighted to be able to support the Guide Dogs for the Blind by helping them get their message across to everyone.'
