AN exhibition of German art work at the Wharf Gallery was opened by Tavistock mayor, Cllr Norma Woodcock, on Sunday (July 13).

The paintings, etchings and drawings were the work of artists from Celle, in Germany, one of Tavistock?s twin towns.

The Bund Buildener Kunstler von Celle has been exchanging bi-annual exhibitions with the Tavistock Group of Artists for some forty years now.

Cllr Woodcock welcomed the visiting artists and stressed the importance of maintaining the town?s cultural links in the future through art, twinning and youth exchanges.

The varied works on display range from the abstract designs of Wolf Nolte to dramatic pencil sketches of the Celle landscape by Dietrich Klatt.

Dirk Huisken, one of the older members, is exhibiting drawings of Tavistock and Dartmoor.

The exhibition closes on August 9.
