STUDIO OK opened its new, purpose-built eco-office in the centre of Okehampton last week.
The building is an eye-catching mixture of high-tech galvanised steel roofing and guttering and traditional dressed Cornish granite cappings and stonework.
Okehampton mayor Kay Bickley last Thursday cut the ribbon officially to open the building, which is a simple mono-pitch design with high-level glazing lighting the interior.
The construction contains a heat retaining concrete slab floor, with timber framed walls and roof. All windows are timber construction with double-glazing.
Heating is by underfloor pipework fed by a small gas boiler plant, and light fittings are fluorescent or discharge lamps.
The design has an open plan to aid natural ventilation, with high-level glazing to create a natural stack ventilation effect and to provide solar heat gain in the winter months. Finishes are generally water-based mineral paint, timber flooring and ceilings and ceramic tiling.
