THE members of Hatherleigh Bowling Club came out of hibernation on Saturday, April 23, for the start of yet another bowling season. Chairman Ralph Hunkin welcomed members old and new onto the green and wished them all the best for the coming season. He then invited the president Joan Weeks to say a few words. She remarked on the pristine condition of the clubhouse and surrounding areas, and thanked everyone who had helped with the painting and generally getting everything ship-shape. The green keeper Jeff was also congratulated on the excellent condition of the green. Also thanked for keeping the club ticking over during the winter months were the secretary Denys, treasurer Eric, bar manager Frank and the rest of the committee. Mrs Weeks then introduced, to the members, the Mayor of Hatherleigh, Mrs Denise Herrod-Taylor who was invited to bowl the first wood of the season. Mrs Herrod-Taylor said it was a privilege to be asked to do so and remarked how lucky the people of Hatherleigh were to have such a superb bowling green.
