Devon Seconds B

Yelverton seconds v

YELVERTON seconds were asked to bat first and lost Andy Taylor, lbw to S Green for 2 early on.  Patrick Hobbs (0) departed in similar fashion with the score on 7 again to the bowling of Green.  Chris Cottrell and Terry Leonard steadied the innings with a 25 run partnership for the third wicket, but a sharp single left Leonard stuggling to make his ground and he was run-out for 18.

Cottrell and Matt Tamsett knuckled down took the score up to 68 before Cottrell on 29 became the third lbw of the innings when well forward.

Skipper Chris Pearson joined Tamsett but the first delivery he received took the edge and he was caught at backward cover for a duck.  Dan Cooper, aged 14, joined Tamsett, 19, with the score on 68-5 and the pair got their heads down and with some mature batting forged an 80 run partnership for the sixth wicket until Cooper (14) was run out in the 43rd over trying to rotate the strike.  Tamsett departed with the score on 166 for a well played 82.

The Bohemians innings closed on 172-8 off their 46 overs.  Abbotskerswell's S Green (2-54 off 12), H.Crocker (2-24 off 13) and Dave Emery (2-34) were the wicket takers.

Abbotskerswell's opening pair of A Birt and G Harrison-Roberts initially struggled against the new ball bowling of S Joseph and D Rushton, but once the new ball was seen off, the pair steadily compiled a solid opening partnership.

Leg-spinner Ben Spear was unlucky not to pick up both openers after inducing edges which were put down at slip.  The opening stand was only broken with the score on 111 when James Worrell (1-18) bowled Birt (46) four short of his half-century.

Crocker was adjudged lbw for a duck off the bowling of Pearson (1-34) soon after, but try as they might the Bohemians could not make a further breakthrough and the third wicket pair of Roberts and Green saw Abbotskerswell home on 174-2 in the 42nd over with an unbroken partnership of 54, Harrison Roberts unbeaten on 72 and Green on 20 no.
