MATT Milford won the Kennard Winter Cup at Okehampton Golf Club in a qualifying Stableford competition with a full field competing for the cup. Matt won the cup, playing in the second division, with an excellent 44 points which brought his handicap down to 13, and will put him into the first division in subsequent competitions. The first division was won by Graham Moysey with 40 points, second was Martin Aggett on 39, with a better back nine, and third was Keith Harkness also 39. In division two Matt Milford won with 44 pts, second was Graham Starkey on 40, also on the back nine from Dan Potter 40pts. Division three was won by Dave Wooldridge with 42, second Fred Scott-Lawson on 40 and third Steve Gregory with 38. On Saturday a fourball better ball Stableford saw Chris Pike and Phil Atherton win division one with a better back nine and 41 points while in second place were Jeff May and Alan Hough, also 41, and in third were Chris Hurley and Colin Cornwall with 40. In division two Laurence Waldron and Ray Grey won with 40, second were Alan Mann and Ian Davie on 39 and third were Derek Wildash and Trevor Parker with 38. On October 17 the ladies played the Daily Mail Foursomes. It turned out to be a closely fought competition with Jane Warren and Mary Keir scoring 35 points winning by one from Kay King and Kath Mansell. Third were Marcia Holwill and Marcia Jones with 30. The following Wednesday was the ladies? par qualifying competition. Sally Griffin won the bronze division with a gross par. Lorna Rolfe was second with minus four on the back nine from Jane Warren, also minus four. The silver divison was won by Pam Jarman and second was Kath Mansell. Members were saddened to hear of the death of Mrs Janie Mortimer. Janie had been a lifelong active member of the club and was handicap secretary for many years. Her husband Denzil was captain in 1978. Janie was lady captain twice and also the only lady to have had the honour of being the president of the club which she undertook from 1999 to 2002. Janie will be missed not only for her knowledge and enjoyment of golf but also for her extreme bravery and fortitude when she lost her sight in the latter years of her life. On October 21 the junior Autumn meeting was held with Dan Curtis winning the Norman Yeo Shield with a net 70; second was Chris Baxendale and third place Johnny Rattenbury. The Non Congu section was won by Will Searle with a creditable 47 points. In the adult/junior foursomes Andrew and Adam Clarke took first prize with 37 points; second were G Hodgeson and C Baxendale; third was club captain and junior captain Paul and Johnny Rattenbury. At the social evening afterwards the EDJL Trophy and medals were presented to the nine members of the team - J Rattenbury, R Spry, L Waldron, D Curtis, O Kirby, J Lee, A Clarke, W Searle and R Wildash. The Order of Merit trophy was presented to Oliver Kirby as the highest point-scorer in the EDJL. The Farmer?s trophy from the Spring meeting was also presented to Oliver Kirby.
