Tavistock Town U14 Manstow

A VALIANT Tavistock team, half of whom were carrying injuries, battled hard against physically strong and well organised opponents to ensure a draw after the match was abandoned shortly before full time.

Manstow played the more controlled football and posed such a threat that Webber was kept busy in goal all afternoon.

In contrast the Manstow keeper was never troubled with the Tavistock strikers short of quality service as the emphasis was on the battle for midfield and defending.

Under pressure Tavistock resorted to rushed clearances and too many high balls being played on this windy afternoon.

After half time Tavistock had a couple of lucky escapes and Fazakerly replaced the injured Smith.

There were good individual performances from central defenders Smurdon and Derbyshire and Hammond tightly marked his dangerous midfield opponent to limit the threat down the Manstow right.

Tavistock continued to hold out and McCall, who fought hard to turn the tide, fired a free kick over the bar from long distance.

One goal would clinch the match and as Tavistock moved forwards the referee played advantage despite two bad tackles on Tavistock players the first of which left McCall lying on the ground.

The match was abandoned as McCall, unable to be moved, waited for the ambulance.

This draw kept Tavistock top of the table.
