A COMMUNITY market held in Exbourne has been deemed a great success by shoppers and traders alike.

The Exbourne and Jacobstowe Community Association organised last Saturday's event, which saw a turnover of around £1,250. Stallholders, many of whom were new to Exbourne's market were so thrilled with their sales that many are keen to attend the next community market in the summer.

The market was opened by Hatherleigh Town Crier, Ros Chard, and people came to shop from Exbourne and the surrounding area, helping promote local businesses, and particularly food and crafts, to local people.

The committee expressed thanks to all those who attended the market, saying that by supporting the market, people are supporting the community and area as a whole. Particular thanks were expressed to those who contributed in so many ways: the cake makers, sweet makers and kitchen team, and notably the 'marquee men' and those who so kindly helped clear away and tidy up.
