A MARE and foal died side by side on the B3212, just before Princetown, after being struck by a vehicle.

The tragic incident, which is believed to have take place at some point last weekend, has shocked many local residents and passing motorists who witnessed the unhappy scene.

Dartmoor Livestock Protection Officer Karla McKechnie said that speeding through Dartmoor was not acceptable and has killed more than 100 ponies, sheep and cattle in the past year.
