COFFEE and cake will be on offer in abundance at an event this month to help a West Devon runner fundraise for the London Marathon.

Claire Pitcher, a member of Tavistock Athletic Club (TAC), will be running the marathon in aid of Help for Heroes and is taking some time out of her busy training schedule to boost her fundraising.

Claire said: 'I have always wanted to run the London Marathon ever since I joined TAC, and 2012 seems to be the ideal time to do it.

'I work at Devonport Naval Base and have seen first hand the fantastic work of Help for Heroes — they have funded a new personnel recovery centre for our wounded. One section is already complete, with another currently being built.

'The work of Help for Heroes is really making a difference to the lives of our wounded and having seen the impact of the charity I feel the least I can do is raise some funds towards the new centre at HMS Drake.

'I am currently working hard towards my marathon goal, and in the meantime organising a coffee and cake event as an extra fundraiser to boost my support.'

The coffee and cake event will take place on Saturday February 25 at Whitchurch Village Hall from 11am to 2pm.
