TWO West Devon runners helped raise a stunning £1,705 for children?s charity CLIC when they ran the Flora London Marathon earlier this year. Judith Anstey from Highampton and Nikki Siddall from Sheepwash raised the money in memory of local boy Walter John Chapman who died 14 years ago. They were also able to donate £200 to the Caroline Thorpe Ward at North Devon Hospital for a special thermometer for children ? a local youngster, Joseph Stacey, had an extended stay there last year when he was very poorly. Judith said once the run got underway her nerves disappeared and she was ?excited and proud? to be taking part. ?The London Marathon is so well supported and we were cheered all 26.2 miles of the way,? she said. Judith finished in a time of four hours and 50 minutes. She said there were many people to thank for achieving such a great total ? the ladies who helped with the coffee morning at the Old Schools, Hatherleigh, which raised £231 and the children at Highampton Primary School who raised more than £60, Willie Cleave and all the local pubs and businesses who put out collection boxes and sponsor forms. Next year, the friends are planning to team up again to run the Paris Marathon. In total CLIC supporters raised a total of £500,000 this year through running in marathons throughout the year. l Judith Anstey and Nikki Siddall are shown left, presenting a cheque to Sue Chapman representing CLIC.
